News News Corp commuter newspaper mX signs off with ‘heartfelt thanks’ in its final edition June 12, 2015 12:59 by Nic Christensen The final edition of commuter newspaper mX has been released with a front page featuring all its staff. The front page includes a quote saying: “From all of us at mX, a heartfelt thanks for picking us up and letting us share your ride home. We hope you’ve enjoyed the journey as much as we have. Here’s looking at all of you.”The closure of the newspaper was announced last month with publisher News Corp blaming the “swift shift to mobile” of its “young commuter audience” for making the “decision inevitable”.In the wake of the decision mX editor-in-chief Craig Herbert published a front page editorial which said staff were “gutted” by the decision to close the struggling commuter paper, but which also thanked readers for their support.ADVERTISEMENT The closure placed around 30 full time journalistic roles in the air, with the publisher saying it would try and redeploy as many of these positions as possible.News Corp Australia declined to comment on how many of these positions had been redeployed.Nic Christensen Related content:Goodbye mX – Without paying readers you were always going to be first to go mX could have stayed relevant if it dropped the ‘commuter paper’ mentality The mX closure will leave a big hole for those wanting to share ideas to a mass audience Top 10 of Eric the Circle: How mX powered the world’s first draw-it-yourself cartoon ADVERTISEMENT
