The “5000 Jobs In 50 Days” initiative launched on Saturday, with an open letter from boss Michael Miller published in the company’s newspapers.

5000 jobs in 50 days letterThe letter offers employers free advertising space to promote vacancies for first time job seekers.

And the company said it is also creating 250 internships within News Corp.

Major retailers including Coles, McDonald’s and KFC are among those to have already pledged jobs.

The campaign is also backed with a Facebook page promoting the initiative.

It is not the first time that News Corp titles have launched a campaign based on driving economic outcomes.

Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph was instrumental in breaking the political logjam in getting  work on the city’s second airport underway, in a campaign which evolved into the title’s Fair Go for the West initiative.
