News Corp to scale printing operations back in Gold Coast

Publisher News Corp is to scale back it Gold Coast operations announcing the closure of its printing press at Molendinar, reports Gold Coast Business News. 

According to the independent news website Gold Coast Bulletin staff were told today of the closure of the printing facility, which was reportedly developed more than a decade ago at a cost of $40 million.

The move will impact 60 jobs and with some are expected to be relocated to News’s operations in Brisbane. As Encore has previously reported News has consolidating its local operations in other states such as NSW and also Victoria recently.

The Gold Coast Business News quotes a News Corp spokesman saying: “Today’s announcement of the consolidation of our Brisbane and Gold Coast print operations is part of the ongoing transformation of News Corp Australia.”

“For people in the roles affected, we will seek redeployment within the business where possible.”

“Unfortunately it is likely that some people will be leaving the business”.

The announcement comes only two days into Julian Clarke’s term as CEO of News.
