News, current affairs and MKR help Seven to a Thursday night win

News and current affairs coupled with another strong performance from My Kitchen Rules helped Seven to a 23.1% win on Thursday night.

Although it wasn’t far ahead of Nine’s 20.2%, the channel had the most-watched news bulletin and television show, with 984,000 metro viewers tuning in to the 6pm bulletin and 1.070m watching MKR.

The second half hour of Seven News – which in some cities airs as Today Tonight – had 971,000 metro viewers.

MKR also dominated all three key advertising demographics, the 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s. The top three shows across each demographic were made up of Seven programs.

Meanwhile, Nine’s focus was on its NRL sports offering on the east coast last night. The match between the Rabbitohs and the Broncos attracted 431,000 viewers across Sydney and Brisbane, outdoing Ten’s 7:30pm offering, Rove McManus’ Show Me The Movie. The show pulled in 353,000 metro viewers.

Nine’s The Footy Show, which ran following the match, averaged 396,000 viewers across Australia. Nine’s 6pm news bulletin managed 908,000. But last night saw the channel dominate in Melbourne, with 308,000. Seven News was well ahead of Nine News in Melbourne the night prior.

Ten’s most-watched program of the evening was The Project 7pm, with 435,000 metro viewers. Overall, Ten finished with a share of 10.2%, ahead of ABC’s 9.2% and SBS’ 7% share.
