News Limited appoints Michelle d’Almeida MD of Sunday Times
News Limited has appointed the digital director of The Daily Telegraph, Michelle d’Almeida, as the new MD of the company’s Western Australian operations.
She will run The Sunday Times and perthnow.com.au and report to News’ MD of group newspapers and digital products Jerry Harris.
A replacement digital director on The Daily Telegraph has yet to be announced.
She starts in her new role on 6 February, based in Perth, her home town.
In a statement, Harris said:
Michelle is widely respected within the company for the success she has achieved in senior advertising and digital positions in three different cities in Australia and the US.
This broad based experience makes her the ideal candidate to lead The Sunday Times, the division of News Limited she first joined 17 years ago. We are particularly excited that Michelle’s experience leading digital strategy at the New York Post and The Daily Telegraph will help drive the ongoing success of PerthNow in the fiercely competitive West Australian online news market.”
D’Almeida has worked at News Corporation since 1995, spending her first nine years The Sunday Times in Perth. She moved to the US in 2004 to take on the role of director of classified advertising for the New York Post.
She returned to Australia in 2008 as deputy advertising director of The Daily Telegraph. She was promoted to digital director in 2010.
As Mumbrella enjoys the misfortunes of media outlets getting it wrong, I am curious on the reporting here. The statement from Jerry Harris clearly states Michelle will lead the Sunday Times, not the Sunday Telegraph, as stated in the headline and the article.

Fair point, Tabloid – thanks for flagging it up,
As is clear from the copy, the author was clear on the information but had a brainstorm when updating the headline later on (initially was the accurate “head of WA operations”). For a time, as you correctly state, it read Sunday telegraph instead of Sunday Times, now amended.
Cheers,
