News Ltd launches blue ribbon campaign for flood relief

News Ltd has launched a campaign aimed at helping flood victims across Australia which will see the public and TV personalities sporting blue ribbons from tomorrow.

The  Flood Fightback Ribbon campaign is being promoted across the publisher’s metro newspapers including The Courier Mail in Brisbane, Herald Sun in Melbourne, The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph in Sydney, The Advertiser in Adelaide and The Sunday Times in Perth in what it describes as “a national display of compassion”.

The Herald Sun ran a similar yellow ribbon campaign in the wake of Victoria’s deadly bushfires.

From tomorrow, Spotlight and Anaconda stores will be handing out the ribbons for free across the country after donating thousands of metres of ribbon material.

News Ltd has already donated $500,000 to the relief campaign.

News Ltd CEO John Hartigan said: “What we have witnessed in Queensland during this flood crisis is truly extraordinary, both in terms of nature’s fury and the resolve and strength of the human spirit.”
