NewsMediaWorks appoints Adstream’s Peter Miller as CEO

Industry body NewsMediaWorks has appointed Peter Miller as its new chief executive officer, replacing Mark Hollands, who departed the role in February this year.

Miller joins from advertising technology solutions company, Adstream, where he was executive director of global market strategy for two and a half years and managing director for the past 13 years.

Miller has spent more than 25 years in the media sector, and will lead the organisation in its bid to support Australia’s leading news media publishers, manage industry co-operation, and communicate the sector’s value proposition to advertisers.

Across his career, Miller has worked for the Salvation Army, Fairfax Media (as group sales and marketing director) and News Corp (as marketing and circulation director at Mirror Australian Telegraph Publications and advertising sales director for The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph).

In his new role with the industry body – which speaks for Australia’s major news publishers News Corp, Fairfax Media and Seven West Media – Miller will be involved in the readership metrics emma (Enhanced Media Metrics Australia), the News Media Index – which reports the industry advertising revenue – and the industry’s annual conference which will run in September.

Commenting on his new role, Peter Miller said he was excited to return to his “first love of publishing”.

“Our news media publishers have some of Australia’s most trusted and respected brands that attract large and engaged audiences and present a compelling proposition for advertisers. I look forward to working with the NewsMediaWorks team to promote the industry and its many initiatives.”

Miller’s role is effective from late July.

Last year, the industry body rebranded from Newspaper Works to NewsMediaWorks, launching its own index to report on industry advertising revenue.
