Nick Chan named CEO of Bauer Media

Chan: From ACP to Pac Mags and now new CEO of Bauer

Former Pacific Magazines boss Nick Chan has been named new Australian CEO of Bauer Media.

Chan was one of a number of mooted candidates for the high-profile magazine publishing role.

Bauer Media interim CEO Andreas Schoo said in a statement: “We are delighted Nick is joining Bauer Media to head our Australia and New Zealand operations. His understanding of the media market and leadership experience is extensive and he brings that knowledge to Bauer at an exciting time in the company’s development.”

Chan is a magazine veteran who worked his way up through ACP Magazines, now Bauer Media, before moving over to rival Pacific Magazines in 2004 and eventually being promoted to COO of Seven West Media in 2013.

The appointment comes at a challenging time for Bauer Media which earlier this year was forced to close iconic magazine Cleo while Dolly Magazine moved to a bi-monthly “digital first” publishing strategy.

Bauer has also faced key management departures losing boss its sales boss and CEO last year. Chan’s appointment along with February’s appointment of print veteran Fiorella Di Santo sees both these roles now filled.

Schoo today touted Chan’s background in publishing, saying: “Having run media businesses for many years, Nick is aware of the challenges facing the industry and publishers in particular and he has shown great strategic insight into how to best manage this evolution.

“As a multi-platform media business spanning magazines, digital and live experience, I believe he is best placed to ensure the future prosperity of Bauer Media.”

Chan’s role will see him oversee Bauer Media in Australia and New Zealand and he will also oversee digital division Bauer Xcel Media, content business BauerWorks, Bauer Trader Media and Bauer Books.
