Nicole McInnes to leave Ovo as company ditches CMO role

Nicole McInnes is on the hunt for her next role after a restructure at Ovo, which includes removing the chief marketing officer function, Mumbrella can reveal.

McInnes – who has spent time at Adshel, Pandora, Eharmony and Woolworths over the past five years – said she was disappointed but looking forward to her next adventure.

McInnes will depart Ovo in June

“Of course I’m disappointed but start ups are as much a great creative experience as a rollercoaster ride, and I thank the founders for the opportunity to experience the breadth that Ovo as a hybrid telco-broadcaster, had to offer,” she told Mumbrella in a statement. “As a shareholder, I support the business restructure as it’s what the business needs right now, and I’m looking forward to my next marketing adventure.”

Matt Jones, CEO of the telco, thanked McInnes for her investment.

“Nicole was a great contributor to Ovo over the last year,” he said. “As is needed in a startup, Nic put her hand to anything and everything required with little fuss. I wish her all the best for her next role, whoever nabs her will be very lucky.”

McInnes came onto the scene as a senior creative on the IBM account at Ogilvy and Mather in 2003, before going across to Dell as marketing manager in 2005. She was then head of consumer brand and marketing communications at AAPT for just over a year, and then joined American Express as senior marketing manager for over three years.

From there, she became chief marketing officer at Adshel – now a part of Ooh Media – for three years, and then joined Pandora as marketing director for Australia and New Zealand. She left Pandora in May 2016.

Her next gig from June 2016 to November 2017 was as managing director of dating platform Eharmony, which she left to be head of ecom marketing at Woolworths’ digital division, Woolies X.

She joined Ovo in May last year and will be departing in June.

Ovo is backed by industry stalwart Barry O’Brien, and last year secured a $5m investment from Southern Cross Austereo.
