Nigel Marsh launches nude Sydney swim event
Adman turned author Nigel Marsh, the former boss of Y&R, is the brainchild of a nude ocean swim in Sydney, which is being sponsored by juice brand nudie.
The event, called Sydney Skinny, is to take place at Cobblers Beach, Middle Head on 17 February, and is being touted as the world’s first nude ocean swim.
It costs $35 to enter, and supporters can attend for $15 or $30 for the family. No spectators will be allowed.
Marsh has already been in contact with industry types such as Gruen stars Todd Sampson and Russel Howcroft to ask if they will participate. They are yet to confirm.
Marsh, who is himself taking part, told Mumbrella: “On one hand it is a cheeky, large scale skinny dip in Sydney’s Middle Harbour to raise funds for a national park. But the intention is for this to be so much more than getting your kit off for a good cause.”
“This is designed to be a joyous annual opportunity to snub dull conformity and routine and live a bit. Throw off concerns of body image and connect with nature and celebrate as a community. It’s also a wonderful way to draw a line in the sand and dedicate yourself in the New Year to living with more kindness and courage,” he said.
Marsh is a well known figure on the topic of work-life balance, since a talk at TEDx Sydney led to a successful business speaking career.
He is also the author of Fat, Forty and Fired, a book about his experiences of finding himself out of a job, which could be turned into a sitcom by US network ABC.
hope it’s warm

You’ve got to have a set of big balls to do that. Both physically and metaphorically.

how is this not just a little bit sleazy?

Looks to me like someone needs to get you out of their comfort zone – what better way than in a great community event like this- I like the idea that clothes, constraints and inhibitions are left on the sand.

“No spectators will be allowed”. How about cameras with very long lenses?

Get over it – events like this happen all over the world! Look at Spencer Tunick and the crowds he always gathers. What a great fun!

NS – Cobblers is incredibly protected and private. Only event participants will be allowed on the beach area so no gawkers will be around… good luck with the long lenses… with all the running and splashing they will be nothing to photograph.

So far we have two waves dedicated to specific organisations/groups! How much fun… we hope we are making the world a little more supportive one beach at a time! 🙂
Thanks all – we have had so many entries, messages of support and nervous enquiries… we will get to you all.

Oh NS…I think your statement say’s more about you than it does the event.
Wonderful idea. Love it.

My understanding is that Cobblers is a public beach – how do they propose stopping spectators?
Surely any secuity guard would be overstepping the mark should they try to stop people using a public beach.

What, no one on the beach to gawk? Well that’s it – I not doing it, then!

I suspect new nudists after the event may stay on the beach.

I am hoping to get to this event as it will be one of those once in a lifetime oppurtunities & I missed the Opera House Tunick shoot & I’m still kicking myself!!
I only have one fear, I am not a strong swimmer so I will be wearing flippers ( and a foam noodle if allowed? ) & dog paddling at the back of the pack LOL
