Night School pulls in $1.698m on first box office weekend

Universal’s newest comedy, Night School, pulled in $1.698m across 204 screens on its first weekend at the Australian box office.

The film, which premiered on September 27, stars Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish. It follows a group of adults who are forced to attend night classes to get a high school diploma.

But the new film didn’t earn as much as Johnny English Strikes Again, which collected an additional $2.396m over 280 screens. The result brought the film to total earnings of $6.654m.

Children’s film Smallfoot made $1.945m over 305 screens on the weekend. The film, which debuted on September 20, is based on the life of Migo, a friendly Yeti, after he discovers humans exist. It stars Channing Tatum, James Corden and Zendaya.

Since the premiere, Smallfoot has made $4.325m.

Behind Night School was new Australian film Ladies In Black, which cracked $5m in earnings, with an additional $1.682m over the weekend.

A Simple Favour’s earnings rose above the $7m over the weekend, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia Report (MPDAA). The film has made $7.030m.
