Nine announces Brooke Boney’s Today replacement

Nine has revealed Brooke Boney’s replacement on Today, as the presenter departs her entertainment round on the show to return to study.

Jayne Azzopardi, co-host of Weekend Today with Clint Stanaway, will be joining Today in the news chair. As announced in March, Boney is leaving Today to study at Oxford University.

Azzopardi worked at ITN, BBC, CNBC, and Al Jazeera, before joining Nine 15 years ago, where she has covered two Federal elections and several leadership changes.

Azzopardi will join the Today team in a week’s time, according to an email sent to staff by Steven Burling, Nine’s director of morning television, and seen by Mumbrella.

In order to cover Boney’s entertainment round alongside Richard Wilkins, Renee Bargh will be joining Today “more regularly,” according to Burling. “Initially, at least a couple of days a week.” Bargh recently hosted The Voice with Darren McMullan, and worked as weekend co-host of Today EXTRA.

“Over the past couple of years Renee has been filling in on Today over summers and has quickly become part of our team,” Burling said to staff.

“It’s a privilege that we get to welcome Jayne and Renee to Today.”
