Nine appoints Matt Conway as AFL executive producer

Longtime Nine News producer Matt Conway has been appointed executive producer of the network’s AFL coverage under its Wide World of Sport brand.

Conway’s appointment comes ahead of the 2020 season which kicks off in mid-March.

Conway will join the AFL team at Nine

Nine’s director of sport, Brent Williams, said Conway has already been an integral part of the network’s sports coverage.

“A passionate Hawthorn fan and sports lover, Matt has been involved in News coverage of the World Cup in Brazil and has played an important role in Nine’s Australian Open coverage over the last two years,” Williams said in an email to staff.

“Matt’s new role will see him work closely with Nine’s print, radio and digital platforms to drive our “Footy on Nine” brand. He will take responsibility for all of our AFL productions and content including The Sunday Footy Show and Footy Classified, along with a suite of additional digital programming to be launched this season.”

Conway will report directly to Williams.

The network has also appointed Mitchell Jones as AFL digital producer. Jones has previously worked as a social producer for the AFL Footy Show and worked with the North Melbourne football club.

In his new role, Jones will develop and produce AFL content for Nine’s digital platforms.

“I welcome both Matt and Mitchell to the Wide World of Sports family and wish them both well in their new roles,” said Williams.
