Radio ratings: Nine continues to dominate as ABC falls further
In Sydney, 2GB and Smooth have pulled further ahead of the pack, with the former gaining 0.8 points to remain the city’s top station overall, while the latter has jumped 0.6% to sit 3.1 points clear of Kiis – its closest rivals on the FM band.
ABC’s Radio National has fallen to just 0.9% of the total Sydney radio market, the station’s lowest audience share since Survey 3, 2023, when it held 0.8%. Despite slight gains for Triple J and ABC Classic, this isn’t a good sign for the national broadcast in the country’s biggest city. In addition, ABC Sydney and ABC Newsradio both also lost listeners this survey.
Nationally, RN also lost listeners in Melbourne, held steady in Perth and Brisbane, and gained 0.5% in Adelaide, the city where it commands its highest share, a paltry 2.2% of the audience.
2DayFM’s recent format switch is beginning to pay off for SCA, with a modest 0.2 point uplift, following a 0.1 jump last time. This is only its second full survey since skewing its sound younger, and the momentum is looking pleasing.
In Breakfast, Ben Fordham on Nine’s 2GB is now a commanding 4.2 points above Kyle and Jackie O on Kiis, who gained 0.2 to rule the FM breakfast slot in Sydney for the 51st straight survey. With Jonesy and Amanda on Gold holding onto the #2 FM breakfast slot, the network has maintained what chief content officer Duncan Campbell called “ARN’s breakfast duopoly”.
In Melbourne, Nine’s 3AW rules overall, with 12.5% share, despite losing 1.6 points this survey. ARN’s Gold remains the overall FM station, also losing 0.7 points. Gold sits 1.7 points clear of closest rivals, Smooth, who picked up 0.5% this time around.
Melbourne’s overall breakfast ratings continue to be dominated by Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft on 3AW, who command 18.1% of listeners, and sit some 7.9 points clear of their nearest FM rivals.
This survey, Nova’s Jase and Lauren have jumped back into the top slot for FM breakfast, a position they held for a lot of 2024, but which had proven elusive over the first two surveys of 2025. Gold’s Christian O’Connell lost 1.1 points — as well as co-presenter, Jack Post, who resigned during the survey — to slip to second, after holding the top FM spot for the first two surveys of 2025.
And Kyle and Jackie O have lost the 0.7 points they gained last survey to slip back to 5.1 points – eighth overall, in the breakfast market.
In Brisbane, Triple M have remained the top station with 12.8%, sitting 1.5 points clear of its nearest rival Nova, despite both stations losing audience share this survey.
Nova’s Ash, Luttsy & Nikki Osborne have managed to hold onto top spot in Brisbane breakfast, despite falling by 0.5 to slip to 13.1 – just 0.1 points clear of B105’s Stav, Abby, and Matt.
Triple M’s Marto, Margaux & Dan were tied for second place last survey, but lost 1.5 points, to slip to 11.7.
Nova no longer rules Perth, after it lost a huge 2.1% this survey, completely erasing the 2.3 points in audience gains it made over the last two surveys, to sit at 14.9%. 96FM, who held a 1.1% lead in November, once again take the top station mantle, climbing 1.9 points, to sit at 17.1%. It’s an impressive lead.
Nova’s Nathan, Nat and Shaun dropped 2.2 points this survey, after jumping 1.9 points last time. They still have an incredible 19.5% of the market, making it the most successful breakfast show in the country.
In Adelaide, Mix has pulled further ahead, gaining 0.4 points to hold 14.4% of the market, ahead of Nova and Triple M, which each lost 0.6 points this survey.
Nova’s Jodie & Hayesy have dethroned Triple M’s Roo, Ditts & Loz in Breakfast, gaining a full point (after last survey’s 1.2 point jump) to move to 13.8.
Roo, Ditts & Loz gained 0.4, but it wasn’t enough to hold the lead, after losing 0.8 points last survey. Hayley and Max on Mix gained 0.4 points to hold onto third.
