Nine squeezes out Seven in tight weekly TV ratings race

Nine edged out Seven in a close race during last week’s ratings with The Block’s success getting the channel over the line.

Seven News last Sunday 6 August was the most-watched show by all people across the five major cities, followed by Nine’s Sunday night episode of The Block. Seven attracted 19.6% of all metro viewers during the week while Nine took 21.4%, according to OzTAM’s metro ratings.

The Bachelor’s Matty Johnson, one of Ten’s higher-rating shows

While The Block dominated the 25 to 54 year old demographic on every night it appeared, The Bachelor’s two-part screening across Wednesday and Thursday nights on Ten was the second and third-most-watched shows last week for the 16-39 age group.

Across the entire metro audience The Bachelor came in 19th and 18th on the two nights with 753,000 and 764,000 viewers on the respective evenings.

Seven’s Hell’s Kitchen failed to make the top 10 shows for the week, with the Sunday night premiere finishing 11th with 818,000 in the five metro areas and 1.190m viewers nationally, while Nine’s This Time Next Year continued its success finishing eighth with 872,000 city viewers and 1.261m nationally.

Across the five metros, Seven edged out Nine as the most-watched network with 30% against 29.7%, ABC channels attracted 17.3%, Ten attracted 16.2 % and SBS stations were watched by 6.7% of viewers.
