Nine narrowly wins ratings week and remains ahead in yearly battle

Nine’s prospects of winning the ratings year across total people are that much closer, with the primary channel winning the week with 20.9% of the audience, and the network securing a winning 31.5%.

The network, including Nine’s multi-channels Gem, Go and Life, remains narrowly ahead of Seven Network for the year. In the survey year to date, Nine Network has 29.7% to Seven Network’s 29.6%, and Network Ten’s 16.9%.

Nine tends to focus on the demographics, but could win the overall ratings year

Nine’s primary channel won every night last week with the exception of Friday night, which went to Seven, on both a primary channel and network level.

Seven’s strong 27.8% primary channel share and huge 41.0% network share on Friday night wasn’t enough to help it recover the week though. Seven’s primary channel share for the week was 19.8%. The network had 30.5%.

Despite a disastrous Saturday night – in which it had just a 4.8% primary channel share – Ten placed third with 11.9% for the week. The network had 17.2%.

ABC, meanwhile, had 10.2%. and 14.6% across the network, while SBS had 3.6% and 6.2%.

The best-performing multi-channel across the week was Nine’s Gem, which averaged 5.7%. On Wednesday night the multi-channel had a 13.1% share, and on Saturday night it beat Ten’s primary channel with 7.5%.

Last Sunday’s episode of The Block was the most popular program across the five main capital cities, with a metro audience of 976,000.

This week sees the launch of Ten’s Pilot Week, premiering at 9pm with Sydney’s Crazy Rich Asians, while Nine will screen the fifth test of The Ashes, and Seven can expect a bump from the AFL semi-finals.
