Nine previews Beauty and the Geek revamp with MAFS producers at the helm

Beauty and the Geek is set to air on Nine in the coming months, with the network teasing the return of the format to Australian screens with an extended trailer.

Nine revealed it would be reviving the show at its 2021 upfronts, after the show last appeared on Seven over a six-season stint that ended in 2014.

Love Island host Sophie Monk will also host the forthcoming season of Beauty and the Geek, and she starred alongside a string of ‘beauties’ and ‘geeks’ in the first look at the new season.

The trailer shows off the new season in a microcosm, with the beauties meeting their geeks on a wharf, getting to know each other, geek makeovers and finally, the creation of meaningful connections.

Nine will be betting that it can pull higher ratings than the show managed in its final season at Seven, when the premiere was watched by 612,000 metro viewers, before 560,000 tuned in to the finale.

Heavily leaning in Nine’s favour is the move to bring on the producers of Married At First Sight, one of only a handful of shows to regularly break the 1 million metro viewer mark so far in 2021.

“Hosted by the original beautiful geek Sophie Monk, the big-hearted program will showcase that the power of love is on the inside as a fresh group of beauties and geeks from all over the country test their brains and their charisma,” Nine said on its Nine For Brands page.

“The new Beauty and the Geek promises to deliver laughs, tears and everything in between as two groups of people from completely different worlds are set to collide.

“From the producers of ratings phenomenon Married at First Sight, this addictive show finds a new home with a rejuvenated and reimagined format as it explores you can’t always judge a book by its cover.”
