Nine secures The Ashes TV rights

The Nine Network has secured the free-to-air rights for the next two Ashes cricket series, the Financial Review reports.

According to the newspaper, Nine has paid between $20-$25m for the media rights for the 2015 and 2019 Ashes series.

A Nine spokesman confirmed to Mumbrella the network had secured the deal but declined to comment further on the details of the sports rights deal.

The deal comes three months after the Nine Network secured the international cricket rights, after fending off the Ten Network which was left with the consolation prize of the Big Bash league.

Last night saw the final day of the current Ashes test in the UK, with the England team due to return to Australia later this year.
