Attenborough vs Attenborough, nature lovers switch from Ten to Nine

Channel Nine’s launch of a new David Attenborough series averaged over 1m metro viewers while another Attenborough series on Channel Ten dropped to 363,000, OzTam’s preliminary overnight ratings show.

Nine launched the new series David Attenborough’s Secrets of Wild India in the second half hour of David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities on Channel Ten and while Nine won 1.069 viewers, Ten’s audience fell to 363,000 from over 550,000 last week.

Channel Nine also had the top program of the night, 60 Minutes which averaged 1.165m just before the new Attenborough series.

Meanwhile Sunday Night on Channel Seven rated 1.124m, helping its ratings for nature program Wild Planet: North America, a repeat episode that averaged 881,000 at 7.30pm.

Ten’s new episode of Modern Family had 756,000 viewers at the same time, while its new current affairs comedy quiz show Have You Been Paying Attention averaged 352,000.

Ten also faced direct competition from Nine for its Sherlock Holmes TV series Elementary as Nine showed the Sherlock Holmes feature film, Game of Shadows, at the same time. Elementary held onto its audience however, rating 663,000 viewers while Nine’s film had an average 520,000 viewers. Elementary was eighth in Ten’s target demographic of people 25-54.

The top program of the week was the announcement of the winner on Channel Nine’s Australia’s Got Talent last Sunday with an averaged 1.39m metro viewers, and was followed by The Big Bang Theory and 60 Minutes, also on Nine. Channel Seven had the largest average audience share for the week with 21.9 per cent followed by Nine with an average 18.5 per cent share. ABC1 had an average audience share of 13.5 per cent while Channel Ten had 12.1 per cent.

Last night Seven won a 21.6 per cent share of the audience as Nine closely followed with 21.3 per cent. Ten had 12.1 per cent of the audience share.
