Nine takes the win on Wednesday night as The Block heads towards the finale

The Block gave Nine the edge onWednesday night, drawing 804,000 metro viewers to the channel for a retrospective episode looking at the best times from 2019’s season so far.

The renovation juggernaut, which is about to enter its final few reveals, went up against Ten’s The Bachelorette (593,000 metro viewers), and Seven’s Highway Patrol (446,000) and Motorbike Cops (487,000).

The Block’s 2019 season is drawing to a close

In national audiences, The Block drew 1.1m, followed by The Bachelorette with 808,000, Motorbike Cops on 793,000 and 704,000 for Highway Patrol.

At 8:30pm, Nine’s Love Island brought in 320,000 metro viewers, The Good Doctor drew 477,000 for Seven and Playing For Keeps brought in 231,000 for Ten. On ABC, Gruen delivered 587,000 metro viewers, while the season finale of Struggle Street brought 249,000 to SBS.

The most-watched programming overall for the night was Seven News with 888,000 metro and 1.34m national viewers, while Nine News drew 773,000 and 1.01m. 577,000 metro viewers watched ABC News.

The Bachelorette and The Block were the top two performers in the key advertising demographics of 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54. The Bachelorette took the top two spots in the younger two, while The Block topped the 25-54s.

Nine took an easy win with metro audiences 25-54 overall, holding a 21.6% share, and just edged out Ten in metro audiences 16-39 with a 20.5% share over Ten’s 20.3%.

Nine also won the night overall with a 20.0% audience share over Seven’s 18.5%, ABC’s 12.2% and Ten’s 11.0%. In the network shares Nine held a winning 29.4%, above Seven’s 27.7%, Ten’s 18.7% and ABC’s 16.2%.

10 Bold was the most-watched multi-channel with 5.4%.
