Nine turns to Chopper and actor Aaron Jeffery for next ‘Underbelly’ installment

Having enjoyed a series of successes with its Underbelly crime dramas, Nine is now turning its attention to the life of Mark “Chopper” Read announcing award-winning actor Aaron Jeffery will play the notorious criminal.

Nine announced the stars of the production with popular star of The Castle, Michael Caton to play the role of Chopper’s father, Keith.

Kiwi Jeffrey has already held a number of acclaimed roles in dramas such as Wenthworth and McLeod’s Daughters.

He has also made appearances in previous installments of the Underbelly series, portraying Frank ‘Tink’ O’Rourke in Underbelly: Badness, and Geoff Leyland in Underbelly Files: The Man Who Got Away.

Nine heads of drama Andy Ryan and Jo Rooney said the story of Read, who has already been the subject of a feature-length movie, was a compelling one.

“This is Chopper as you’ve never seen him before,” Ryan and Rooney said.

“And who better to portray this larger-than-life criminal than multiple Logie and AACTA-award winner than Aaron Jeffery.”

Screentime will start the production of Underbelly Files: Chopper in Melbourne in July, but the network has not announced a screening date.
