Nine Upfronts move to virtual format in 2020

Nine’s presentation to marketers and agencies about what it has in store for the year ahead will be conducted virtually this year.

Nine is the first major network to announce its plans in the wake of ongoing travel restrictions, social distancing regulations and reduced event sizes due to COVID-19.

A statement said the event will showcase why Nine – which also owns the likes of 2GB, 3AW, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age – should be the media partner of choice for businesses looking to chart a course for economic recovery.

In addition, Nine’s chief sales officer Michael Stephenson said the event’s early date – 16 September – would enable the company to talk to advertisers about 2021, as well as the immediate opportunities available to them, such as the looming Christmas period.

“There has never been a more important time to work together to return our economy to growth, and the marketing ecosystem plays a key role in how it informs consumer expectations and attitudes,” he added. “Nine, as the home of Australia’s most trusted and popular content spanning news, sport, lifestyle and entertainment, is uniquely placed to be the partner that brands turn to as they begin to look beyond the immediate short-term.”

The one-hour event on 16 September will include announcements about content, technology, data and partnerships.

Invitations to the event will be sent out shortly, Nine said.
