Nine wins Friday night with NRL clash coverage

Friday night saw Nine win the evening with a 21% audience share, despite Seven News dominating and Better Homes & Gardens being the most watched non-news program of the night.

Seven managed an overall audience share of 18.9% while Ten had a share of 11.7%, the ABC 12.0% and SBS 4.9%.

Nine’s 7:30pm coverage of the NRL season, which saw the Brisbane Broncos and the North Queensland Cowboys go head to head, captured an audience of 471,000 viewers across the Sydney and Brisbane metro areas.

According to OzTam’s overnight preliminary metro ratings, the clash which saw the Cowboys win 21-20 in overtime, had more viewers than last Friday night’s audience of 384,000.

The program also had more viewers than the Thursday night clash between the Sydney Roosters and Canterbury Bulldogs, which attracted 385,000 viewers across Brisbane and Sydney.

Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens, which aired at 7:00pm, was the most-watched non-news program of the night with 639,000 metro viewers.

The program was slightly down on last week’s audience of 666,000.

Ten’s The Living Room, which aired at the same time as the NRL captured 452,000 viewers.

In news, Seven managed to win Friday night, with 802,000 viewers at 6:00pm and 761,000 viewers at 6:30pm.

Nine collected an audience of 741,000 at 6pm and 749,000 at 6:30pm.

Later on in the night, The ABC’s Broadchurch won the 8:30pm time slot with 569,000, ahead of Channel 10’s The Graham Norton Show at 458,000 viewers and Seven’s movie offering, The Theory of Everything grabbing 362,000 viewers.
