Channel Nine’s business editor Ross Greenwood has teamed up with former Fairfax journalist Michael Koslowski to launch a new cloud-based video editing service called WeEditFast.

The new offering is aimed at exploiting what the pair see as the slow turnaround times and costs for traditional editing processes, with the duo teaming up with the developer behind the Stayz website Chris Sharkey to develop the platform.

Koslowski told Mumbrella the new offering had potential beyond corporate clients, and pointed to news rooms which need short-form video turned around quickly, as well as ad agencies which might need last minute changes to promotional material, adding they also produce content for platforms like Vine and Instagram.

“The reason we’re quicker than other platforms is the back end systems,” he said. “We have spent a lot of time honing them and making them collaborative, so clients who need several levels of approval can get that quickly. We had one case where a CEO was able to watch and approve a video on his iPhone before getting on a plane, saving at least 24-hours.”

He also played down potential for conflicts with production houses, saying whilst many people currently producing video loved to shoot it “they don’t like the editing part”.

Koslowski said by keeping production on shore it was also minimising the potential for security breaches or miscommunications, adding the platform had been tested “toi the highest security levels”.

“Ross and I have put our media balls on the line with this one, but we’re confident it will work,” he quipped.
