Nine’s 60 Minutes Sydney siege special outrates Seven’s Inside the Siege: The Untold Story
Nine’s 60 Minutes Sydney siege special narrowly out-rated Seven’s Inside the Siege: The Untold Story on the first night of the ratings year, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam.
Seven’s My Kitchen Rules won the night with 1.685m viewers at 8pm.
And Ten launched its new show Shark Tank last night at 8pm, picking up 616,000 metro viewers straight after the first eviction from I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
60 Minutes was watched by an average audience of 1.28m from 6.30pm to 8pm while Seven’s Inside the Siege: The Untold Story averaged 1.127m. However, Seven’s telling of the siege story actually began around 20 minutes earlier than TV listings suggested, with the network making the unusual move of cutting its 6pm news bulletin back to around ten minutes. Nine followed its 60 Minutes siege special with the premiere of The House of Hancock which told the story of the relationship between mining tycoon Lang Hancock, his daughter Gina Rinehart and housekeeper Rose Lacson. Part one of the mini series, which starred Mandy McElhinney as Gina Rinehart, pulled an audience of 1.383m in the 8.45pm timeslot. The show was the second most watched show of the night while the 60 Minutes special was third
The siege special audience delivered Nine a winning audience of 27.5 per cent, while Seven grabbed an audience share of 26.9 per cent. Ten managed 11 per cent while the ABC settled for a share of 10.5 per cent.
The first eviction on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here saw swimmer Leisel Jones sent home. The show was watched by 616,000 in the 6.30pm timeslot while the eviction grabbed an audience of 744,000. Was actually fun to watch the game of chess between 9 & 7 in terms of moving the start times to see who would win the siege specials. Was a sort of game within the game scenario. Both were really well done

I watched both (with the exception of the first 10 minutes of the Seven program, due to their shenanigans) and felt that Nine had the better offering. More in-depth, and better talent. Joel was especially compelling.

Channel 9 was much better – its really their ball game so to speak.

I preferred Channel 7 because it had the inside footage and didn’t need to rely on a re-enactment. Channel 9’s reporting of the sequence of events was also wide of the mark in some areas – such as the circumstances surrounding the initial escape.

I preferred 9. Switched to 7 during the ads and found 9 better. Also it was longer too. I cannot believe that some people have problems with what the hostages earned. They are going to live with post dramatic stress for the rest of their lives. After what they went through, how could anyone be so selfish and ignorant !!!

I can’t believe how bad House of Hancock was.
Overtly obvious, blatant generalisations, flashing red light plot points.
Mini series by the numbers.
Complete and utter trash.
