Nine’s Gem gets 15.8% audience share on Sunday night as third Ashes test concludes

Nine’s multi-channel Gem has soared to a 15.8% audience share on Sunday night, beating both the ABC’s primary channel share of 8.2%, and Ten’s 11.9%.

Gem’s share was largely driven by The Ashes. Session one of day four had 696,000 metro viewers, while session two had 514,000, and the much-later session three had 265,000.

With the addition of regional figures, session one had 1.001m viewers, session two 694,000, and the final session three 358,000.

The Block, which was on Nine’s primary channel during the prime-time 7:30pm slot – up against session one of The Ashes – had a metro audience of 1.094m. The Block’s national figure was 1.479m.

Ten’s Australian Survivor had 735,000 (937,000 national), while Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent had 731,000 (1.119m national).

The Block placed first in the key advertising demographics of those aged 16 to 39, 18 to 49, and 25 to 54, with Australian Survivor placing second across all three.

Seven News snuck ahead as the most-watched metro program overall, with 1.096m tuning in. Nine News had 1.006m. With the addition of regional figures, Seven News climbed to 1.614m, while Nine News was up to 1.373m.

Overall, thanks to Nine’s winning primary channel share of 21.4%, plus the stellar performance of Gem, Nine Network finished with a massive 42.7% share.

Seven’s primary channel share had 16.4%, and Seven Network had 24.1%. Ten Network had 16.3%, and the ABC’s channels had a total of 11.4%.
