Nine’s Matt Rowley becomes chair of IAB Australia Board

IAB Australia has announced Nine’s director of sales for publishing, Matt Rowley, as its new chairman.

Rowley’s appointment comes one month after Cameron King resigned as the chair of the IAB Australia board and departed News Corp as its managing director for digital revenue.

Rowley has been named as the new of chair of IAB Australia

King was appointed as the chair of the IAB Australia board in May last year, replacing Nicole Sheffield who abruptly resigned from her role as chief digital officer at News Corp three months ago.

Seven months after being appointed, King resigned from the role as IAB’s chair.

IAB’s new chair, Rowley, was promoted from his previous role as chief revenue officer at Fairfax in December last year. In his new role Rowley is responsible for the revenue for all of Nine’s digital assets, as well as the major metro titles: The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review.

The promotion came after Nine acquired Fairfax and prepared to merge their businesses.

“Now more than ever the IAB has a critical role to play in delivering on its purpose of growing sustainable and diverse investment in Australian digital advertising. I’m honoured to have the opportunity to lead the board and look forward to working closely with my fellow board members to support the advertising industry.”

Gai Le Roy, who was named the CEO of IAB Australia after being the interim CEO for four months, added: “Matt’s background and passion for developing strong media brands with robust commercial models that help sustain a rich media landscape as well as deliver on advertiser objectives makes him a wonderful choice to lead the IAB board.

“I look forward to working closely with him, continuing to roll out initiatives that will highlight the strengths of digital advertising, as well as provide guidance and standards on best practice for all sides of the media and marketing ecosystem.”
