The announcement:

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO FOR LOVE?

New season Wednesday, July 28, at 8.30pm on Channel Nine

The love drought has finally broken, with THE FARMER WANTS A WIFE returning for its fifth season of romance and Cupid stringing his bow on Wednesday, July 28, at 8.30pm on Channel Nine.

In the new series of the smash-hit quest for rural soulmates, six farmers are doing it tough on the land – including our first single mum Becky. She’s two and a half hours away from the closest supermarket and her “happily ever after” relationship is nowhere in sight … yet.

Over four seasons, THE FARMER WANTS A WIFE has already had two weddings, three engagements and two babies, so who knows what will happen next? In the new season, five brave men and one strong-willed female farmer put their hand up to declare themselves in the market for love, and the net has been cast far and wide to find it.

This series of THE FARMER WANTS A WIFE also features the loneliest farmer ever – drover Nathan who covers more than 1.4 million dry, barren acres. When he leaves home to go to work in the morning, sometimes he doesn’t return for weeks. Popping over to the next-door neighbours for a pint of milk is a 240km return trip.

Have you ever heard of a blue farm? Jamie, another of our new farmers, might be every girl’s dream date once they find out what he produces on his spread. Waking up every morning on his farm is what dreams are made of.

Guiding the new crop of farmers on the road to romance is series host Natalie Gruzlewski who quickly becomes their confidante and shoulder to cry on. They share their innermost thoughts as they discover untapped emotions on the long and winding road to love.

In episode one the farmers gather at a country estate to meet their top six choices. Over the coming weeks they will cull the list to three potential partners. The twist this season is that the partners won’t know the location of the farmers until they actually reach their farms. It brings true meaning to the phrase, how far will you travel for love?

The farmers then invite their three favourites back to their farm to spend 10 days learning about country life, hard work, and meeting family and friends. Some of the partners will relish the opportunity while others will struggle without their creature comforts.

Will tension or passion flare in the household? Rural work can be tough and will be too much for some. But the prize of a lifetime is up for grabs: the chance that love will finally bloom in the outback … and the farmer will indeed find a wife or a husband.

Meet the Farmers:

  • Farmer Nathan, 26 – Runs cattle on 1.4 million acres
  • Farmer Devon, 25 – Cropping, wheat, barley, lupin, rye, oats and peas, on 4500 acres
  • Farmer Charlie, 25 – Sheep and cattle, on 6000 acres
  • Farmer Shaun, 31 – Sheep and crops, on 7500 acres
  • Farmer Becky, 34 – Cattle and sheep, on 1 million acres
  • Farmer Jamie, 39 – Pearls, in 12000 acres of water

THE FARMER WANTS A WIFE is not a competition, there is no prizemoney, and the only winner in the end is love itself.
