Nova Entertainment restructures national news team, bulletin to be delivered from Sydney
Nova Entertainment has axed a small number of newsroom jobs as part of plans to consolidate its national news team in Sydney.
Mumbrella understands as a result, Kate, Tim & Marty’s national drive show will no longer have separate news bulletins delivered across Australia.
Instead, there will be a single news bulletin which will be produced in from Nova’s Sydney office and distributed widely.
However it is understood a unique service will be delivered for Perth from Sydney – due to the time difference – and specialised local sports coverage will also be created for Melbourne and Adelaide.
It is unclear how many jobs have been axed as a result, but Mumbrella understands the removal has had minimal impact.
The changes are effective from next week.
Nova Entertainment declined to comment.
Interesting ……maybe Lachlan and Siohan are employing the same cost cutting tricks from Ten on Nova. Good luck…..

Mumbrella should look into other cuts at the DMG network as well. Morning announcers across Australia have lost their jobs for a national shift, as have all the PD’s.

“Minimal impact” on news delivery.
Massive impact on the bottom line
Massive impact for the people who lost their jobs 8 weeks from Christmas.

I suspect that by 2030 this continent will be renamed Sydney.

Hi Kate, who is DMG network?

Nothing like local news delivered from 5,000k’s away.
All of this was tried at SCA a number of years ago. Clive Dickens even tried to move the digital team east, all those jobs are now back in place.
Feel sorry for those that have lost their jobs so some hopeless exec can show a positive bottomline.

Nova have cut all morning announcers and using the Sydney DJ across the east coast. Program teams been slashed too. Not a great sign for Aussie radio.

Local news on Nova was already being delivered from Sydney to other markets in 2009 when I was moved there. Only new thing here it seems, is there’ll no longer be localised, individual bulletins delivered from Sydney but one ‘national news’ bulletin that’s the same in every market bar Perth and for sports. Still sad to see the decline of radio newsrooms continue.

Maybe Nova are clearing the decks so that News Limited can buy Nova – at a premium price taking into account all the current and future cost cuts ! It has happened before ……Shine (owned by Elizabeth Murdoch sold to News Corp) for a premium price. Gotta love it.
