NSW invests $25m to attract production
NSW will invest a further $25m to support and attract film and TV production to the state, including $20m in screen incentives for large projects – studios such as Warner have responded positively to the announcement.
The State Government will include this funding in the upcoming Budget, with an additional $5m for Screen NSW’s Production Investment Fund for local productions.
In a statement to the media, Warner Bros. executive vice-presidnet of physical production Bill Draper said that this fund “will put NSW in serious consideration as we scout the world for potential locations for our upcoming features.”
“This $25 million will support local jobs, it will support investment in the NSW economy, and it sends a clear message that – here in NSW – we are serious about staying number one,” said Premier Kristina Keneally.
This is good news indeed. Now that the Aussie dollar is down a bit and the social situation in Australia is better than in many countries, the many talented producers
will have a chance of competing on a more level playing field.
