I know of some filmmakers who would prefer, for a variety of reasons (shyness being one) not to stand up in front of a crowd and ask questions. Can their questions, be asked by Sandy – perhaps via Encore?

Hi James,
I can ask Jo Smith if that’s a possibility but as she stated, it’s one question per industry member. However, I do see this as the perfect chance for filmmakers who have voiced their disapproval in the Encore forum to have a free face to face with the heads of the funding agencies, as they’ve been asking for.

Colin, I’ve been asked by two filmmakers if I would ask questions on their behalf. Even if there were not a one question limit I would not want to do so.
Filmmaker critics of the funding bodies who are also hoping to receive funding in the future are reluctant to ask the kinds of tough questions that they feel might jeopardize their chances. Let’s face it, this is why many of them choose to write anonymously in these Encore debates.
It must be fairly clear to Jo, to Sandy, to Tania and Ruth, just what kinds of questions filmmakers wish to ask from reading the comments @Encore. It should not be necessary for shy filmmakers or those not wishing to rock the boat in public to have to stand in a queue for their turn to ask their question.
It is to be hoped, also, that whatever questions are asked, in whatever form, that the filmmaker audience will be invited to participate in a debate about the question; that it will not simply be those onstage providing their answer before moving on to the next question.

Paper bags should be handed out to those aspiring and established filmmakers wishing to ask questions anonymously, not only would this be humorous for those on stage to see a sea of people wearing paper bags over their heads in front of them, but would also symbolize the absurd situation we have gotten ourselves into. Filmmakers living in fear of the very funding system they helped create and nurture. Afraid that if they speak their minds they will be cut off from the funding teat.
Worth considering..worth doing for a laugh
