NZ news site Stuff launches user generated news and content platform

stuff nationFairfax Media-aligned New Zealand news site Stuff has launched a new platform for user generated content called Stuff Nation.

The new site will offer members feature competitions and quizzes, allow readers to contribute to news stories and to share their views. Part of the new site is called the Open Newsroom Network and will allow users to add an area of expertise which it claims  journalists can use “to contact news sources when a story they’re investigating is relevant.”

Sinead Boucher, group digital editor at Fairfax Media said in a press release: “Our audience have shown great appetite for innovation in digital news. The success of our crowd-sourcing projects around the MP expenses scandal (which was a NZ first) and the Christchurch earthquake have shown us that readers want to contribute and engage with news and events that are important to them. Stuff Nation is the next step in that evolution.”

Stuff is the largest news site in NZ. The site will use the information provided by users to create detailed demographic and behavioural data for advertisers. In a first for the Asia Pacific region, the site will use Adobe Audience Manager as its data management platform.

Nigel Tutt, GM of Fairfax Digital in NZ said: “Advertising markets around the world are moving towards a trend of buying audiences and eyeballs rather than pages or context, publishers need to develop a better understanding of their audience; Stuff Nation will enhance this and enable us to stay ahead of the game.”
