Oakley reimagines Bob Marley’s ‘One Love’ with sports stars

Sports equipment and apparel brand, Oakley, has reinvented Bob Marley’s track ‘One Love’ to send a message about the sense of hope and passion sports can bring people.

The film stars Australian BMX rider Caroline Buchanan, WNBA player Diamond DeShields, professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler, Paralympic gold medalist Oksana Masters, and world surfing champion Italo Ferreira, whose stories are worked into refreshed verses of the song.

American-born, British-Jamaican artist, Celeste, performs the reimagined song. She was selected by Oakley for the project based on her own belief in creating music that makes a difference.

The video came together by the brand interviewing its network of athletes about their personal journeys with the sports they are involved in, including struggles with the pandemic lockdown and how sport has pulled them through periods of frustration.

Oakley’s remake of ‘One Love’ is part of a yearlong celebration of what would have been Marley’s 75th birthday. The song also kicks off Oakley’s ‘For the love of sport campaign’.

Global marketing director, Ben Goss, said: “Sport has the power to evoke emotion, whether participating or spectating. And the world is in a fragile place right now. By sharing what drives us and our athletes, this love of sport, our hope is that it can have a positive impact on uplifting the community during these uncertain times.”

The song will be available on Spotify and Apple Music, with the video appearing on Oakley’s Instagram and Youtube channel.

Ziggy Marley commented on his father’s own connection with sport.

“Sport, specifically soccer, was my Dad’s second love after music, and it brought him a great deal of joy throughout his life,” he said.

“The world really needs love right now, and we’re thrilled to work with Oakley on this amazing reinterpretation of One Love, so it can be meaningful to a new generation during a time when it’s needed most.”
