Offspring season five opening up on last year for Ten

The fifth season of Ten’s hit drama Offspring opened to 931,000 metro viewers last night up on its debut last year of 868,000 viewers and helping Ten to a healthier audience share, according to OzTam.

Preliminary overnight metro ratings show Offspring was first in its timeslot from 8.45pm, beating The Blacklist, and Nine’s US sitcom Mom, as well as ranking second in Ten’s target demographic of people 25-54.

Only House Rules, which was on Seven from 7.30pm to 8.45pm grabbed more viewers in the timeslot with an audience of 1.072m, however the audience then dropped to 744,000 for The Blacklist at 8.45pm.

House Rules was second in the 7.30pm timeslot, as The Big Bang Theory brought 1.131m metro viewers to Nine. A repeat episode of the US sitcom followed on Nine to 848,000 at 8pm, before Mom had 615,000 viewers at 8.30pm and 582,000 at 9pm.

ABC1’s new episode of QI tied third with Mom at 8pm with an average 615,000 viewers, and Spicks and Specks followed to an audience of 416,000.

Seven beat Nine in news and current affairs with 1.194m for Seven News at 6pm and 1.122m for Seven News and Today Tonight at 6.30pm as Nine averaged 1.151m for Nine News at 6pm and 1.065m for Nine News at 6.30pm.

A Current Affair on Nine at 7pm was more popular than Seven’s Home and Away as it averaged 964,000 ahead of Home and Away’s 895,000.

In the morning battle Seven had a big lead over Nine as Sunrise brought 383,000 metro viewers to Seven and Nine had 299,000 for Today.
