Ogilvy Australia hires Peter Galmes as lead social creative

Peter Galmes has joined Ogilvy Australia as lead social creative.

Most recently, Galmes was the creative director at We Are Social. He has also worked with production company Revolver/Will O’Rourke as social director, DDB Sydney as creative partner and TBWA as creative director.

In his new role, Galmes will be working with Ogilvy head of social, Alex Watts.

Galmes said of his appointment: “Ogilvy offered the opportunity to work on some of Australia’s best brands, and the opportunity to work alongside Alex in pushing the social offering further. I am super excited to be joining a talented, diverse and dynamic team and entering the agency at a time when the creative work is best in class.”

Ogilvy ECD, Gavin McLeod, said that the agency needed people who were passionate about social to reinforce its offering.

“Social has obviously become mainstream and we have rightly integrated it into the overall agency offering. But we still need people who care deeply about social, while providing real thought leadership to make our offering even sharper,” McLeod said.

“I’m thrilled to have Pete join the team because he believes passionately in the power of socially-led ideas and has the proven ability to execute them to a world-class standard.”

Other recent additions to Ogilvy are art director Maria Torres, senior copywriter Deb Rothschild, senior designer SoJung Lee and junior designer Jingyi Hu.

McLeod stated the four new hires will join the Agile Team, which works directly with clients on digital transformations.

“We are seeing increasing demand from our clients to integrate with and support their digital transformations. As a result, we needed to grow our Agile Team to work in scrum teams hand-in-hand with our clients to deliver innovation at pace,” McLeod explained.

“The ways in which agency creative departments work are rapidly changing and we have embraced the agile methodology with the skillsets required to power it.”
