OMD wins UnLtd Cup futsal tournament, raising $55,000 for charity

24 teams participated in the ninth edition of the UnLtd Cup, a charity futsal tournament which was won by OMD on the day.

Put on by the industry’s social purpose organisation, the annual tournament raised over $55,000 for children at risk, with profits given to children’s mental health charity KidsXpress.

OMD win the UnLtd Cup trophy

The tournament took place between the 15th and 16th of October at All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre in Alexandria.

OMD defeated REA in the final 1-0, after winning their semi-final against the UnLtd All Stars on penalties.

OMD’s Hattie Dinger said she was thrilled about what the industry was able to achieve together on the day.

“It was a cracking day and the level of skill was very high. We’re of course delighted to be taking home the trophy but even happier about the amazing result that we’ve achieved together as an industry. A huge thanks to everyone involved,” she said.

KidsXpress founder and CEO Margo Ward said the money raised from the cup is all the more significant at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has impacted many fundraising efforts.

“What might seem to some as just another sporting fundraiser is actually an act of both being human and kind. The mental health of our most vulnerable members of society are often overlooked – our children,” Ward said.

“Three out of four children with mental health disorders aren’t accessing the care that they need and one reason for this is their family’s inability to pay for it. The funds raised from UnLtd Cup will allow us to reach more children and provide much needed early intervention support before their mental health issues grow with them into adulthood and become harder to treat.

“With many of our signature fundraising events being impacted by COVID-19, there has never been a time where these funds have been more needed. Our heartfelt thanks to UnLtd, to the sponsors and to all the players for supporting this event.”

The UnLtd: Cup was sponsored by Cartology, with support by Ooh Media and ARN.

The participating companies this year were: ACM, DAN, GroupM, Hearts & Science, JCDecaux, Kaimera, Network 10, Nine, OMD, Omnicom, oOh! Media, Pedestrian, PHD, Publicis, QMS Media, REA Group, Seven West Media, Tik Tok, UnLtd All Stars, Val Morgan and Verizon Media.

Cartology head of product and platform Steve Geelan said his company can’t wait to return as sponsor and participants in 2021.

“What a tournament! It was fantastic to get the industry together again for a bit of fun and healthy competition whilst raising much-needed funds for children at risk,” he said.

“Cartology is proud to support the event and can’t wait to be back next year, hopefully with a trophy in hand next time!”

Earlier this year UnLtd’s annual golf tournament raised $140,000 for charity.
