OMD’s Leigh Terry named as Omnicom Media CEO

leigh_terry_omnicomLeigh Terry has been named as the new CEO of Omnicom Media Group, Australia and New Zealand.

His appointment – into what is a new role- brings to an end the joint leadership of OMD Australia featuring Terry and Peter Horgan which began when Mark Coad moved to sister creative agency CHE 17 months ago.

Although there has been no official announcement on OMD, Mumbrella understands that Horgan will now lead the agency. The agency’s official line was that there would be a further announcement later in the week.

Terry’s promotion will see him take charge of Omnicom Media’s OMD, PHD, M2M and Total Media brands, reporting in to OMG APAC CEO Barry Cupples. Horgan has been with OMD since joining the agency in the UK as head of digital in 1998. He has been in Australia for six years  .

Cupples said: “The ANZ region is a jewel in the OMG crown, with both OMD and PHD performing phenomenally well in terms of reputation and scale. The ANZ market represents a huge opportunity for us, where we will not only maintain our number one position but aggressively strengthen our brand presence. Leigh has established himself not just in the digital space internationally, but as a respected agency leader in Australia and he is perfectly placed to take OMG ANZ to even greater heights.”

Terry said: “The management teams of all OMG ANZ brands are leaders in their respective field and they are credited for building incredible operations. This role is exciting as it involves working with people I know and respect immensely and I am confident of adding value to their efforts by ensuring we maximise the global resources of OMG in the region.”

During his time running OMD, Terry remained close to sister agency PHD. He was involved in the agency’s fierce battle to chase the Unilever business, which eventually went to Mindshare. His appointment appears to have been well received by staff at both agencies. It also brings to an end industry speculation over the effectiveness of having two joint MDs at OMD.
