Jason Statham will star in The Killer EliteThe new Australian action thriller produced by Omnilab Media’s Ambience Entertainment will be fully made in Victoria later this year.

The film’s commercial potential will be boosted by British actor Jason Statham, who previously starred in Omnilab’s successful production The Bank Job which made U$64.8m worldwide in 2008.

Film Victoria CEO Sandra Sdraulig said that there was strong interstate and international competition, but the state agency’s Production Investment Attraction Fund and Regional Location Assistance Fund ultimately successful in their bid to attract The Killer Elite to the state for its entire production cycle, from pre-production through to filming and post-production. The film is based on the book The Feather Men, by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and will be directed by Belfast-born director Gary McKendry, who was nominated for the Oscar for his short film Everything in This Country Must. The story follows the activities of two secret organisations: contract killers The Clinic, and the underground vigilantes The Feather Men, who protect former and present members of the Special Air Service (SAS) and their families.

Filming is expected to start in April, and although the locations have not been decided yet the project is expected to shoot in both metropolitan and regional areas.
