Optus makes cuts to employees across the business including brand and comms team

Telecommunications company Optus has made job cuts across its business including its brand and communications team.

An Optus spokesperson told Mumbrella: “Optus is making a step-change to the way we work, do business and fund future investments so we can continue to thrive in our increasingly competitive and disruptive market.

Optus has confirmed it will be making cuts to its brand and comms team

“As we make these important strategic decisions, we will ensure we have the right skills and capabilities in place to build our digital organisation, and establish a more sustainable cost base.”

Mumbrella understands some employees affected by the job cuts include those on parental leave.

Optus has said they have a policy in place to ensure those on parental leave will remain on leave as planned and when their return date nears there will be redeployment opportunities available.

“Regardless of individual circumstances, roles have been assessed to help create efficiencies by removing duplication.

“While we are unable to comment on specific roles, when a role is made redundant and an individual is on parental leave, our policy is for them to remain on leave as planned and closer to the time they are due to return, we consider redeployment opportunities available.

“Our policy is always to speak with employees who may be impacted by these changes first, including discussing redeployment opportunities,” the spokesperson added.

Optus could not confirm the number of redundancies made to its brand and comms team.

The job cuts to its brand and comms team comes just one day after the ABC reported the brand confirmed it would be sacking 400 jobs despite claiming it would not be closing any stores.

Last year Optus rolled out its new in-house creative agency ‘Yes Agency’.

While in March the telecommunications company reviewed its agency roster, later appointing 72andSunny as its full time partner.
