Optus Sport gets new head of business from Foxtel

Optus Sport has snapped up Foxtel’s director of content strategy Howard Rees to helm its SVOD operations.

Rees joins as head of Optus Sport, a newly created role that oversees a team of around 100 and P&L of the sports streaming service.

He reports to Clive Dickens, VP of TV, content & product development at Optus.

Dickens said Rees will drive content acquisition, production and product strategy in the role, as Optus Sport gears up to deliver its exclusive broadcast of FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, here on home soil.

He said: “Howard’s deep knowledge of and global experience leading content strategy and sporting rights deals at SKY in the UK and more recently as director of strategy – content at Foxtel working across Foxtel, FoxSports, Kayo and Binge was precisely the expertise we sought in a candidate to lead the Optus Sport team.”
