Original sketch series The Moth Effect drops today, takes aim in part at media and marketing

Nick Boshier and Jazz Twemlow’s original sketch series The Moth Effect arrives on Amazon Prime Video today featuring a huge cast of local talent.

The series was commissioned by Prime Video and announced earlier this year at its Prime Video Presents event, as one of seven new Amazon Original Productions. In part, it takes a light-hearted look at the media and marketing industry, including sketches featuring breaking news and brands the likes of ‘Jen & Berrys’.

Nick Boshier of Bondi Hipsters and Jazz Twemlow of Tonightly have created The Moth Effect as a satirical six-part series, with one episode per month to land on Prime Video each month for Australia, US, UK, Canada and New Zealand.

Harking back to the days of Comedy Inc and Skithouse, the show will feature over 30 sketches, music videos and more as the creators shine a light on both serious and not-so-serious cultural and news issues.

In a statement, Boshier and Twemlow said: “Moths are famously distracted by bright, shiny lights and as people we’re often drawn to the biggest, loudest spectacle, even if it’s bad for us. We have created The Moth Effect to take Prime Video viewers on a daft, joyous, and every-so-often-not-a-dumb journey into satirical absurdity.

“The series seeks to tap into what’s on everyone’s mind and even tap into what’s not on their mind, but perhaps should be. We’ll even put some stuff in your mind you never wanted there in the first place!”

The full cast includes Bryan Brown, Vincent D’Onofrio, David Wenham, Jack Thompson, Miranda Otto, Ben Lawson, Peter O’Brien, Kate Box, Zoe Terakes, Miranda Tapsell and Jake Ryan, Mark Humphries (who hosted the Mumbrella CommsCon Awards this year), and Nazeem Hussain.

There’ll also be appearances from Zoe Coombs Marr, Jonny Brugh, Lucinda Price, Dave Woodhead, Louis Hanson, Steen Raskopoulos, Tim Franklin, Sam Cotton, Christiaan van Vuuren, Sarah Bishop, Sam Campbell, Megan Wilding and Brooke Boney

The series was written by Boshier and Twemlow, directed by Craig Anderson (Double the Fist, Review with Myles Barlow, Laid, Black Comedy) and Gracie Otto (Under the Volcano, The Other Guy, Bump), with guest writers including Sarah Bishop, Bridie Connell, Mark Humphries, Nazeem Hussain, Natesha Somasundaram, David Woodhead and Meg O’Connell and Ramsay David Nuthall.
