Gold Coast shopping centre Pacific Fair and AMP Capital Shopping Centres have created an augmented reality experience in the lead up to Christmas.

The announcement:

Pacific Fair, the Gold Coast’s largest shopping destination and AMP Capital Shopping Centres (AMPCSC) are set to create a fun adventure for the family this Christmas with the launch of “Pacific Fair 12 Days of Christmas”, which brings art installations to life with innovative augmented reality technology.

Based on the popular Christmas carol, the in-centre experience will ignite the magic of Christmas with twelve quintessentially Gold Coast icons created as art installations scattered throughout the centre, including three sleeping koalas and eight shimmering seashells.

Taking customers on visual trail from The Resort to The Riverwalk, users are encouraged to scan the iconic Christmas art installations with their smartphones, and enjoy the view as the iconic figures come to life. Once all twelve icons have been animated through the app, shoppers can collect their complimentary ice cream voucher from Concierge; the perfect treat for a Queensland summer!

Pacific Fair’s Centre Manager, Steven Ihm, said “This activation takes traditional Christmas decorations and merges it with new technology to give our shoppers a truly immersive and magical Christmas experience. Both locals and travelling visitors will enjoy this uniquely Gold Coast take on Christmas.”

“At Pacific Fair and throughout AMPCSC we are always looking for ways we can use new and emerging technologies to provide unique experiences for our customers; our 12 Days of Christmas app takes you on an adventure the whole family will enjoy.”

Following the release of AMPCSC’s Recommended Retail Practice Report earlier this year, it’s found that consumers are turning towards shopping centres to provide them with new and diverse experiences to entertain them during the trip to the shops, noting that 73% of shoppers would spend as much or more if a shopping centre offered surprising experiences.

Created by Ingot Design, the “Pacific Fair 12 Days of Christmas” is available now to download free from the Apple Store and Google Play.
