Pacific Magazines CEO Peter Zavecz steps down to join News Corp

Seven West Media has confirmed Peter Zavecz, the CEO of Pacific Magazines, will depart the company at the end of September to join News Corp as managing director of Herald & Weekly Times – commercial.

Zavecz joined Pacific Magazines in May 2005 as commercial director and publisher of the Homes group before being made director of magazines in November 2013 and then CEO in December of 2014.

A statement from Seven West Media said: “All of us at Seven West Media and his people at Pacific Magazines wish him well in his new role. We understand and acknowledge his decision to relocate to his home town in Melbourne with his family.”

Zavecz will continue to lead Pacific Magazines until he takes up his new role with News Corp with Seven West Media to “announce the appointment of a new managing director for Pacific Magazines in the near future”.

During his time at Pacific Magazines, Zavecz was involved in the company bringing its digital assets back in-house from Yahoo7 and the rollout of the company’s own digital assets.

Peter Clark, the current executive general manager of Herald & Weekly Times has been appointed executive general manager, metro and regional digital for News DNA.

Nicole Sheffield, managing director of a new business unit, News Digital Networks, said in a statement: “I am delighted to have an executive of Peter Clark’s experience and expertise join my team at News DNA in the new role of executive general manager – metro and regional digital. The opportunity that exists to build digital networks for our masthead products is significant and I know the trust and influence he has will propel growth for the mastheads digitally.

“Peter has a twenty-year history with News across both print and digital platforms. Among his many achievements, Peter has led our digital growth strategy at HWT which is now delivering strong consumer revenue growth.

“In this new role, Peter will be key to developing a new operating model for each of our metro and regional businesses to grow digital innovation, audience and advertiser revenue across a portfolio of digital assets including 12 metro and regional news websites with a unique monthly audience of 6.2 million Australians.”

Zavecz and Clark begin their new roles on October 3.
