Paramount ANZ responds to misleading claims CBS is to sell Network 10

Paramount ANZ has responded to an article in The Australian that was published yesterday claiming US media giant CBS was to sell Network 10 in two years’ time.

A Paramount ANZ spokesperson commented: “The article published in The Australian titled ‘CBS tipped to offload Network 10’ is inaccurate and misleading.  Paramount has no plans to sell Network 10.”

The publication claimed sources believed the next move for the American broadcaster was to use Ten as a launching pad for its Paramount Plus streaming service.

The outlet also hinted CBS may be in discussions to purchase Southern Cross Media Group, as its television division was already on the market, however, it was taken off due to potential buyers making lower the expected bids.

Southern Cross Media Group is one of Australia’s major media companies and the parent company of Southern Cross Austereo, with its headquarters based in South Melbourne.

Mumbrella has reached out to the company for comment.

CBS Entertainment Group is a unit of Paramount Global that owns and operates a group of American television stations.

As of January 2021, Paramount owns 28 stations, 14 are the core stations of the CBS Television Network; eight are aligned with The CW Television Network, which is co-owned by Paramount Global with Warner Bros. Discovery; three are independent stations, two MyNetworkTV affiliates, and one Start TV affiliate.

In February, 10 ViacomCBS officially changed its corporate name to Paramount ANZ, effective immediately.

The news was shared via the broadcast company’s LinkedIn page, in which it showed the Paramount logo along with the comment: “New name: Who dis? Introducing Paramount ANZ.”

Meanwhile, to hear all company updates from a local perspective, listen below to Paramount ANZ chief sales officer, Rod Prosser who appeared on the Mumbrellacast earlier this month.
