RCPA borrows from Monty Python to create a world without pathology

Sydney agency The Hallway has borrowed from the comedic approach of Monty Python to create a series of films to promote the importance of pathology.

The idea behind the campaign is to put pressure on politicians to support funding for the profession – which is at risk of being cut.

Directed by Adam Anthony and featuring actor Damon Gameau from Howzat!, Underbelly, Puberty Blues, the films – for the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia – try to explain what pathology is and why it’s important.

In the films, conventional pathology procedures are replaced by the “Tickleoscopy”, “Blowopsy” and “Emutopsy”.

A second phase invites viewers to experience and share alternative answers to the question, ‘if pathologists didn’t exist, where would the answers come from?’

The campaign has no media budget, so the RCPA is asking its 2,300 members to spread the website that features the films.

The Hallway’s creative partner Simon Lee said: “Very few people realize just how important pathology is. But truth be told, without pathology, medical diagnosis would be about as scientific as tossing a coin or asking the tea leaves for answers”.
