Patrol shows bolster Seven on quiet night for TV audiences

Highway PatrolSeven again won the market share battle for TV audiences last night as its two police patrol shows topped the non-news category in another quiet summer evening for the networks.

Motorway Patrol, which aired at 7.30pm, was the fifth most watched show of the evening with a metro audience of 766,000 with Highway Patrol close behind on 713,000.

They helped Seven to an audience share of just over 19 per cent, according to OzTam overnight ratings, ahead of Nine’s 17.6 per cent with Ten third on 14.7 per cent.

ABC captured 11.3 per cent and SBS 4.3 per cent.

Ten broadcast the fifth Big Bash match from 7pm as the Adelaide Strikers edged out hosts Perth Scorchers in a nail biting finish watched by 696,000, making session two of the match the third most watched non-news show of the night, and ninth overall.

Earlier, 493,0o0 switched on for the first innings which saw the Scorchers amass 146, a total the Strikers surpassed in the final over.

But when taking the afternoon Perth audience into account – the game started at 4pm in Western Australia and aired on One – viewing numbers climbed to 786,000 for session one and 544,000 for session two.

Nine, meanwhile, showed three back-to-back episodes of The Big Bang Theory, the 7.30pm episode drawing 685,000, 8pm 682,000 and the final show capturing 607,000.

In News, Nine took the honours with its 6pm segment drawing 959,000 ahead of the 6.30pm slot which saw 949,000 viewers catch up on the days events.

Seven News/Today Tonight at 6.30pm picked up 875,000 viewers while the earlier 6pm bulletin was watched by 851,000.

ABC’s most watched show of Monday night was the news at 7pm with a metro audience of 750,000.
