Pedestrian launches charity initiative Pedestrian Help to support local charities

Online youth brand Pedestrian.tv has launched Pedestrian Help, a charity-based microsite which will use content to push local causes as well as supporting linked events with fundraising events.

Pedestrian Help

Speaking to Mumbrella, Vanessa Lawrence, head of editorial, said: “In the same way we have the separate Pedestrian Jobs vertical, we have the new Pedestrian Help vertical. It’s a new microsite which will be the platform for these native, editorial, social media and events packages that we will put together to raise awareness for local causes.”

Lawrence said the initiative is currently worked on internally.

“It is a big passion point for us so, down the line there is definitely the possibility to expand. It’s really about Pedestrian’s co-founders Oscar and Chris, they’ve been doing this for 10 years now and the idea is to give a little bit back now through the platform they’ve built,” she said.

Pedestrian Help will be championing Youth Off The Streets as its inaugural cause

“We’re looking at tackling around four different issues a year. We have youth homelessness first, but there’s discussions to be had around mental health, marriage equality and environmental issues. They’re some of the key issues we’d like to be championing,” said Lawrence.

Content produced to further the causes will sit on the Pedestrian.tv website alongside usual pop culture and youth-orientated topics while the microsite will explain the cause, how people can donate as well as how Pedestrian.tv is further helping support local causes with events.

To support the work of Youth Off The Streets, Pedestrian.tv is curating and hosting a one-off fundraising gig at the Metro Theatre in Sydney on May 21 with all proceeds going to Father Chris Riley’s charity, Youth Off The Streets.
