Perth radio ratings: Race tightens as Mix suffers breakfast and drive dips

The Perth radio market tightened in the latest GfK ratings survey as Mix had a second survey of falls with a 1.1 percentage point slump while rival Nova picked up a 0.5 point share.

Mix’s drop to a 14.3% share with Nova taking 12.6% of the Perth radio market is the tightest the competition has been this year between the two stations in the city’s radio market.

Nova’s main gains for the survey, which ran between March 10 to May 25 with a break over Easter, were the drive show of Kate, Tim and Marty who picked up 1.0 point to win the slot with a 14.3% share. Mix’s Kennedy Molloy combination saw a 1.3% slump and the station lose its lead in the 4pm to 7pm timeslot.

In breakfast, Nova also took the lead despite a 0.5 point drop for the Nathan, Nat and Shaun show to 13.1%, edging out Mix’s Big Breakfast which dropped 1.9 points to 12.9% of the rush-hour audience.

The other big breakfast performer was ABC Perth which picked up 2.1 points to take an 11.1% share, a jump which drove the national broadcaster’s local station to a 7.8% share, up 1.2 points on the previous month. Sister station Triple J kept the third place in the overall ratings despite a 0.8 point drop to 9.8%, slightly ahead of Hit’s 9.2%, up 0.4 points on the previous survey.

Despite losing the breakfast and afternoon slots to Nova, Mix kept its top spot in the city’s survey on the back of strong morning and afternoon performances with Ross Edwards grabbing 16.2% of the audience and Pete Curulli taking a 16.5% share, despite a 0.7 drop for both shows.
