Pete Evans fined $80k by Therapeutic Goods Administration

Peter Evans Chef Pty Ltd has been fined $79,920 by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for alleged misleading advertising.

The company’s sole director, controversial celebrity chef Pete Evans, has been issued a directions notice to remove the non-compliant advertising.

In a statement, the TGA said: “Fines were issued to the company for the alleged advertising of therapeutic goods that were not, at the time of advertising, included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). These include the ‘BioCharger’ device, hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers and two oral medicines.”

The TGA continued: “Fines were also issued for the alleged advertising of static magnet products and hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers that contained statements that implied the products were endorsed by a health professional… Fines were also issued for the alleged advertising of static magnet products and hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers that contained statements that implied the products were endorsed by a health professional.”

Under the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 (Cth), the TGA can issue a civil penalty to individuals or body corporates that advertise therapeutic goods not entered into the ARTG.

The TGA issued a further notice to Evans to: “Cease advertising therapeutic goods not entered in the ARTG and to discontinue making various claims about therapeutic products.”

Evans had his Facebook page removed back in December 2020 and his Instagram was removed in February this year for sharing misinformation on coronavirus and vaccines.

Over a year ago, Seven parted ways with the controversial figure, who previously co-hosted My Kitchen Rules.
