Peter ‘Murph’ Murphy has been announced as the interim news anchor for Seven Nightly News in Tasmania.

The announcement:

PETER ‘MURPH’ MURPHY TO BECOME INTERIM NEWS ANCHOR FOR SEVEN NIGHTLY NEWS

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) Executive General Manager Tasmania, Ally Bradley, today announced that veteran presenter, Peter ‘Murph’ Murphy, will become interim Nightly News on Seven Tasmania news anchor.

Murphy steps into the role following Jo Palmer’s decision to step down after an 18-year career in the role.

The highly respected Murphy has been a member of SCA’s news presentation team since September 1984 and is a well-known member of the Seven Tasmania news team.

Nightly News Seven Tasmania has regularly been the most watched news program in Australia per head of population.

“A true professional, Murph has graciously agreed to step into the role to allow us to search for a permanent news anchor. It’s great to have an accustomed hand on the reigns and, importantly, he provides a strong level of familiarity to our loyal viewers,” SCA News Director, Grant Wilson, said.

“I’m delighted Peter has been able to rearrange his busy schedule to ‘hold the fort’ while deliberating on a replacement for Jo Palmer. Murph has vast experience in both television presentation and also how our team works behind the scenes.”

Murphy is contracted to host Nightly News on Seven Tasmania until April this year. Rachel Williams will continue to host the weekend news bulletins.
